Engineering Laughs
Happy April Fools Day! As an engineering couple in mechanical and chemical engineering, we both appreciate and enjoy a lot of witty, nerdy humor. We wanted to share some of our top picks today with you!
First off, let us start with something that has been on all of our minds.
Do any of you ever wonder why your projects take hours? Or why you spend every night and weekend thinking about that one problem? Simba wondered this too.
Alright, how well do you know your units? Lets go back in time and learn from Einstein, Newton, and Pascal’s game of hide-and-seek.
One day, Einstein, Newton, and Pascal meet up and decide to play a game of hide and seek. Einstein volunteered to go first. As he counted, Pascal ran away scrambling to find a great hiding place. Giddily, he squeezed into a crawl space sure that he would win this time as this was his best hiding spot to date and Newton surely wouldn't find an equal. Newton on the other hand, stood right in front of Einstein, pulled out a piece of chalk and drew a box on the ground of roughly 1x1 meters. Once this was completed, he sat down neatly inside the box and waited for Einstein to finish counting. When Einstein opened his eyes, he of course saw Newton and with a bit of disappointment said “I found you Newton, you lose”... but Newton replied, “On the contrary, you are looking at one Newton over a square meter... Pascal loses!”

We know that most engineers or designers had, or knew someone who had, a love of Pokemon during their childhood (maybe they still do). What type of Pokemon are you?
But in reality, what do engineers really do? It seems everyone has a different idea of what we do all day, including ourselves!
Now on to personality types, are you an introverted or an extroverted engineer?
What's the difference between an introverted and an extroverted engineer?
An introverted engineer looks at his shoes when he's talking to you, an extroverted engineer looks at your shoes when he's talking to you.
Any fluids people out there? This poem was written especially for you. Our old friend Osborne Reynolds certainly would have smiled at this one.
What about any chemical engineering Toy Story fans? You’ll appreciate this one.
Finals are almost upon college students (virtually and remotely that is). Just a few more weeks! Don’t worry, Sam still gets married and Frodo goes boating.
And finally, can we not all resonate with this one?
Hang in there everyone! COVID-19 will come to an end and science, design, and engineering will still be around to brighten everyone’s lives!
