5 Articles to Help You Have a Successful School Year

Another academic year is starting. COVID-19 continues to impact the world of engineering education, but certain things will always remain like CAD, Hooke’s Law, and projects that may seem enormous (Pro tip: start on them now!). Here are five articles to help your year go a little smoother:

  1. Scared of Math by Chris Mattson. Why should you read it? Learn how to tackle intimidating topics head on by changing your mindset from being scared of them to seeing them as tools and skills that can be developed.

  2. 5 Tips for Learning Difficult Material by Chris Mabey. Why should you read it? This article will give you some simple tips on how to be more successful in your engineering courses.

  3. Connecting the Dots Backward Not Knowing What We Don’t Know by Douglas Corey. Why should you read it? It is easy to criticize the education process. This article does a great job explaining why we should not be so quick to say: “I’ll never use this.”

  4. Keep the Big Picture in Mind by Terri Bateman. Why should you read it? When we are bogged down in the minutia of a class or project it is easy to forget why we are doing it. Terri Bateman gives some good tips on how to keep in mind the big picture of your project and why that will help you be successful.

  5. Realizing that You’re Good Enough by Samuel McKinnon. Why should you read it? Being in an engineering or design program is difficult. There will be ups and downs throughout your educational journey. Samuel McKinnon gives great advice on mental health and realizing that you are good enough.

From the team at the BDR we wish you a very successful academic year!
